In addition to the standard construction work, this project presented a number of unique challenges. The surrounding area had already endured substantial earthquake damage, and the local community had been living with prolonged construction disruptions for an extended period. Aware of the strain this had placed on residents, we went the extra mile to ensure clear and consistent communication throughout the project. Regular updates and notices were shared to keep everyone informed, and we made a concerted effort to maintain property access and minimize disruptions to their daily routines. Our approach seemed to resonate with the community, as the residents graciously treated our team to morning tea and invited us to participate in a community funday event, a gesture we deeply appreciated.
SHIRLEY CLUSTER - Road Reconstruction
DESCRIPTION OF WORKS COMPLETED:
Construction of kerbs and channels
Installation of drainage systems
New pathways and vehicle crossings
Development of lawns and landscaped areas
Reconstruction of road shoulders and carriageways
Road marking and installation of signage
Installation of water mains (submains)
Traffic control, environmental management, and worksite setup
The project site also presented environmental challenges. We had to manage and remediate a contaminated area that contained coal tar, while being situated right next to Dudley Creek, a sensitive waterway. This required extra care and stringent environmental protocols to protect the creek and surrounding ecosystem.
Throughout the contract, we were committed to being good neighbours and giving back to the community. We approached the Crossway Community Church and arranged to lease their vacant land as a storage compound, a practical solution that helped streamline operations. Additionally, as part of our volunteer efforts, our team participated in a cleanup of Dudley Creek and carried out minor repairs to the pathways in front of the local preschool, further strengthening our ties to the community.
